I went back to school at 30 for a master's in AI in Business. People ask me why. I already run a business. I already do marketing for a living. The honest answer is that AI is rewiring the exact work I do, and I would rather understand it than compete against people who do.
At ASU I am studying where content creation and AI meet. That is not a slogan. It is my Tuesday. Some weeks I am building prompt libraries for video production. Other weeks I am studying how companies actually put AI to work. The classroom gives me the framework. My business gives me a place to test it the same day.
The biggest surprise so far: the degree is less about the technology and more about judgment. Anyone can generate a hundred captions. The skill is knowing which one fits the brand, the audience, and the moment. AI made execution cheap. It made taste expensive.
My advice for anyone considering grad school while working: pick a program that touches your real work. I did not go back for a credential. I went back because every client conversation now includes the question of what AI changes, and I wanted better answers than guesses.
